Advance Series Stopped By Rain At Hagerstown, Big Diamond Next On Tour April 26!

‘09 Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series Opener At Hagerstown Rained On

Weedsport, NY – March 28, 2009 – By Tom Skibinski, Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series PR Director

The Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series event scheduled to open the season at Hagerstown (Md.) Speedway on Saturday, March 28 has been cancelled. Falling victim to wet weather for the fourth time in a decade ---2nd straight year--- the ‘North-South Shootout’ special for Big-Block Modifieds will not be rescheduled.

“It’s a shame having to miss out on Hagerstown for another year,” said Cory Reed, DIRTcar Racing Northeast Director of Competition & Track Sanctioning. “Its one of the favorites for both our fans and the race teams, certainly a tough way to kick off the season. We had a great field lined up, all we can do now is gear up for the next show.”

The next race date listed on the Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series schedule is Sunday, April 26 when the top tour travelers invade the Keystone State. The trip to Big Diamond Raceway will mark just the third-ever series event staged at the popular Minersville, Pennsylvania oval since the tour originated in 1980. The 2009 ‘Spring Fever’ format at Big Diamond opens with Integra Shocks Time Trials and concludes with a 75-lap feature race finale for the Big-Blocks with a top prize of $6,000 waiting for the winner.

Another all-star cast of cars is expected to sign in at BDR, led by past race winners Brett Hearn (2004) and Alan Johnson (2003), reigning overall Hoosier Tire-VP Racing Fuels Mr. DIRTcar points king Billy Decker and a full field of the best Big-Block Modified teams from around the entire DIRTcar Northeast circuit.

The Advance Series is not the only event that has been prone to poor weather at Hagerstown lately, with promoter Frank Plessinger’s legendary speedplant losing its season-opener for the seventh consecutive season on February 21. A second try the following weekend also fell victim to unfavorable conditions before Richie Pratt Jr. finally claimed the Big-Block lid-lifter on March 7. Advance Series star Matt Sheppard copped the Small-Block special run the ensuing weekend.

Heading into the weekend, more than a half-inch of rain overnight Friday left the speedway grounds saturated by Saturday morning. An 80% chance of showers forecasted that evening and more inclement weather predicted Sunday left track and series officials with little choice but to cancel the long-anticipated show. The announcement was made by 7:30am in an effort to contact many of the traveling teams as well as alert race fans that were planning to attend the traditional spring stop in Maryland.

Countdown Gaining Speed Toward Hagerstown Advance Series Showdown!

3 Days ….. Countdown To Hagerstown North-South Shootout Continues!

Weedsport, NY – March 25, 2009 – By Tom Skibinski, Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series PR Director

The 2009 Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series opener, 7th Annual North-South Shootout at Hagerstown (Md.) Speedway on Saturday, March 28 is just three days away.

Commemorating the 10th Anniversary of Series partnership with Advance Auto Parts based in Roanoke, Virginia, those top-10 drivers in the final 2008 Advance Auto Parts Series Mr. DIRTcar Big-Block Modified will be profiled for each of the 10 days leading up to the event.

This talented group of drivers has accounted for 207 Advance Series race victories from the list of 67 drivers taking checkered flags in 619 tour events held at 45 speedways around the Northeast since 1980. Along with 870 DIRTcar Northeast Big-Block feature wins and 63 track point titles, these same 10 drivers have amassed nine overall Mr. DIRTcar Big-Block Modified Championships and all are expected back to compete full-time with the ’09 Advance Auto Parts Series, beginning with the Spring lid-lifter at Hagerstown.

Third-year tour follower Dale Planck from Cortland, New York was strong from the outset, collecting two of the opening four checkered flags before adding a third on Canadian soil and holding on for third-place in the final Advance Series standings. The ‘Natural’ locked up three Integra Shocks Fast Times aboard the RezX Racing no. 77X Grow It Hydroseeding-Action Race Parts/TEO mount, ending the season second-best in both laps led (287) and heat race wins (9).

Second-generation standout Planck solidified his tour status during the summer of ‘06, breaking out to score his first career Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series victory at Cornwall Motor Speedway and following up the next night by setting his initial Integra Shocks Fast Time at Autodrome Drummond. With a new team putting him into a contending position every time out last season, Planck looks to expand on his total of five Advance Series wins and five fast times.

Planck has qualified twice for the ‘North-South Shootout’ at Hagerstown Speedway, finishing 19th after a heat race win in 2007 while mechanical issues sidelined him with just 10 laps scored (28th) in his ’04 debut.

Lid-Lifter At Hagerstown For '09 Advance Series Getting Closer!

4 Days ….. Countdown To Hagerstown North-South Shootout Continues!

Weedsport, NY – March 24, 2009 – By Tom Skibinski, Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series PR Director

Gary Tomkins landed his fourth Top-Five finish in the overall Mr. DIRTcar points chase during the past five years with Doug Dulen’s Honeoye Auto Parts no. 84 Red Parker & Son Excavating/Bicknell ride carrying him to victory lane on two occasions. The 2004 Advance Series Champion led three races for 130 laps, with back-to-back triumphs registered in August on both sides of the border at Can-Am and Cornwall (Ont.) Motor Speedway.

Standing tied for 10th on the all-time Advance Series win list, Tomkins has recorded six of his 17 Advance Series wins at Rolling Wheels, doubling up with wins at Hagerstown, Canandaigua, Can-Am and Cornwall on the list of eight tracks he has reached victory lane. He also owns eight Integra Shocks Time Trial Awards garnered during the newest millennium.

The ‘Tomahawk’ finally arrived on the scene in convincing fashion in 2002 after scoring his initial Advance Auto Parts Series wins at Hagerstown Speedway. The Clifton Springs, New York pilot became the only repeat winner of the ‘North-South Shootout’ in ’04 and logged another Top-5 in ’07.

Earl Pearson Jr. Wins the 2009 Indiana Icebreaker

#44 EARL PEARSON JR. AND #53 RAY COOK RACE FOR THE LEAD, UNDER THE LAPPED #9J CAR OF MIKE JEWELL IN THE INDIANA ICEBREAKER AT BROWNSTOWN SPEEDWAY

Brownstown, IN - The 2009 racing season for Apex One Photo has gotten off to a late start. In past seasons, a trip South during January or February would feed my need for carbon dioxide. The weather was around 50-60F. Still pretty cool, but after a long winter filled with frequent snowstorms, and a 2008 season with record rainouts it would have to do. This was the 77th track I have been to, and overall I enjoyed the experience

The historic Brownstown Speedway hosted the 12th annual Indiana Icebreaker. Brownstown Speedway is a 1/4 mile fairgrounds track with a covered grandstand, spread out among large buildings, a creek and some piece meal parking lots littered with RV's and trailers. With 65 late models, 68 modifieds and 50+ bomber/street stocks there was plenty of cars on hand. Most tracks pit all the same divisions in one locations, whereas here there were 15-20 late models pitting out back, over a bridge and out in the parking lots. The concession lines were long, the merchandise trailers were packed early in the afternoon. No signs of the doom and gloom and corporate bailouts in the Southern Indiana countryside. The racing started on time and lasted late into the night. With 6 modified heat races, the 3 spin rule was called into play a few times and the show went on.

The Lucas Oil Dirt Series sanctioned race paid $10,000 to win. Josh McGuire set fast time of 15.229. The heat races were full of action, as was the A-main. 26 cars took the green flag, with 10 or so finishing on the lead lap. Plenty of three wide action on the semi banked track, and several side by side laps for the lead added to the excitement. Ray Cook would lead first, and battle with Scott Bloomquist and Earl Pearson Jr. battling for the first 25 laps. One yellow for a spinning Scott James slowed the field on lap 23. From there on out Pearson in the Bobby Labonte owned Rocket would lead til the checkers.

The historic K-C Raceway near Chillicothe, Ohio has a new owner as longtime, successful businessman Jeff Schrader and wife Vickie officially took over the deed to the speedway after a successful six year tenure from the Jim Nier family. Great plans are in store for K-C Raceway this upcoming 2009 racing season with even bigger plans in the works for 2010.

Friday's announcement ended a winter of speculation and rumors that K-C Raceway would not run in 2009. The wheels of progress turn slowly. Although plans for the purchase have been ongoing, it was hoped that an earlier announcement could be made. For those who are patient, however, it appears the long wait will be worthwhile as a promising 18-day race schedule for 2009 has been announced along with the changing of the guard.

Schrader said, "Officially at 1 p.m. Friday I became the proud new owner of K-C Raceway. This is a dream come true for me. It is an exciting day for me and my family. A lot people share in the excitement and hopes I have for this season and many more to come at K-C Raceway. I can't wait to get started."

Former owner Jim Nier said, "I've made a lot of new friends over the past six years while operating K-C Raceway. We made a lot of improvements and think we left the place a lot better off than when we found it. I'd like to thank all the many fans, friends, drivers, owners, and sponsors who supported us over the years and wish Jeff and Vickie the best of luck in their new endeavors."

Schrader isn't wasting any time. His 2009 racing season begins April 18 with the O'Reilly All Star Late Model Series headlining the racing card, paying $5000 to win for Late Models, plus E-mods & Hobby Stocks. Nearly twenty race dates are on the card including appearances from the O'Reilly All Star Circuit of Champion Sprint Cars, the World of Outlaw Sprint cars, and World of Outlaw Late Models. A big season-ending Late Model extravaganza is being planned for October 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. The event has been dubbed the K-C Raceway Presents "1st Annual Dirt Track World Cup Late Models Classic".

The Late Model winner will receive $20,000 to win $1500 to start, while the E-Mod race pays $3000 to win, $200 start . The consy race for Late Models pays $3000 to win and says Schreader, "We may even add a sprint car race on Friday!" Details for this race will be announced as information becomes available.

Weekly racing will continue at K-C Raceway for the most part on Saturday nights with a schedule of 410 Outlaw Sprints, Late Models, Hobby Stocks, and E-Mods making up the regular weekly show as announced. "The Night the Stars Come Out" will again be a headlining event for the O'Reilly All Star Circuit of Champion Sprint Cars plus Late Models and E-Mods on July 3.

Below is schedule for the 2009 racing season at K-C Raceway.

K-C Raceway is located 12 miles South of Chillicothe, 3 miles out Blain Highway of SR 23 at Alma. Further details of the racing season will be announced via press releases and at the K-C Raceway website at <<< www.kc-raceway.com >>

Flyin' Pat O'Brien Ready To Soar In 2nd Year Chasing Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series!

PAT O'BRIEN MERRITTVILLE SPEEDWAY BIG BLOCK MODIFIEDPHOTO BY JAMES MACDONALD
Advance Series Success Still At Top Of Pat O’Brien’s Priority List

Weedsport, NY – March 6, 2009 - By Tom Skibinski, Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series PR Director

The upcoming Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series opener at Hagerstown Speedway is expected to attract one of the finest fields of the season to the storied Maryland oval, including invading New Yorker Billy Decker, the reigning overall Mr. DIRTcar points king.

On the other end of the spectrum, finishing 15th ---final point fund payoff spot--- in the Big-Block standings a year ago, Decker’s Gypsum teammate Pat O’Brien from Kingston, Ontario will also be back. In 2009, his sights are clearly set on improving from his ’08 debut made following the premier tour of its kind on both sides of the border.

“Obviously, we didn’t have nearly the kind of year that we had hoped for when the series started,” admitted O’Brien, 44, who wound up with just two Top-10 finishes in 17 of the 26 Advance Series events attended. Despite missing some Saturday shows at weekly stop Can-Am Motorsports Park, he placed fourth in the track standings with a pair of feature wins to his credit. “Our intent again is to try and run the whole series.”

“The toughest part is the lack of experience compared to the teams that have traveled the tour for years. A couple tracks we’ve never even been to, and most of the others just not enough laps to make an impact. Places like Can-Am (9th) and Fulton (8th, set fast time) we feel most comfortable and the results showed. Whatever happens this year, continuing to improve is our primary goal. If we can run decent, we plan to stay at it and make them all,” remarked O’Brien, who opens the ’09 trail at Hagerstown and Big Diamond, the only tracks on tour he has yet to compete in a quarter-century of racing.

The 2009 Advance Series begins at Hagerstown on Saturday, March 28 with the $6,000-to-win 'North-South Shootout 100' scheduled to kick off for the 10th consecutive year below the Mason-Dixon Line. Seven straight months on the trail will provide the second-generation standout plenty of experience yet offer no guarantees as he takes on the best in the Big-Block business at 19 tracks around the DIRTcar Northeast circuit.

“Over the winter we took a long look at everything we had going, evaluated the entire program inside-out and found that we weren’t really doing anything wrong, weren’t that far off,” figured O’Brien, who will be back aboard the red Gypsum Racing no. 6 730 Truck Stop-Gypsum Logistics-Milestone Concrete/Bicknell entry. Plans include starting out the year with a freshened Enders powerplant under the hood and as the season unfolds he expects to experiment with an in-house engine program recently expensed by Gypsum Express Ltd. President/Owner John Wight. “We’re still confident with our team’s ability to contend and the new motor program should help out.”

“When we ran against a lot of the tour guys regularly in the past at Can-Am and Thunder Alley we managed to hold our own. So starting out the series last year we thought that the top-5 and top-10 series finishes we always had would carry over to the other tracks. A lot of guys usually shoot for a win whenever they show up, but running consistent and being better at the end of the year than at the beginning is something we always try to focus on. The Advance Series presents one of the biggest challenges with so many top teams and we want to think we’re one of them. Hopefully we can turn the corner this year and run a little more respectable. On tour is a nice place to be for the next few years if we can find some success at it,” O’Brien said.

Firmly established in the Small-Block ranks, O’Brien joins DIRTcar’s all-time Big-Block winner Alan Johnson as the only other four-time Mr. DIRTcar 358-Modified Champion. Those titles were earned from 1988-95 and he stands fourth on the all-time DIRTcar Small-Block list with 142 feature wins. Another 26 victories are chronicled in the Big-Block record book with two of those registered in Advance Series competition at Can-Am (1990) and Brockville Ontario Speedway (2007).

“There’s not much of a difference from the 358s and I’ve run against most of the tour guys for a lot of years now,” said O’Brien, who also ran Brewerton Speedway regularly in 2008. “There are probably more quality cars running the Big-Block Series on a regular basis throughout the entire year, but you see those same names at all the major 358 races once the track points finish.”

“I generally like the tracks we do good at and have had more laps. Over the years I’ve felt comfortable going to Canandaigua and Brewerton, and Rolling Wheels is right up there too with all the times we’ve run there in the Small-Block. We’re looking forward to going back for the Canadian swing in July and putting on a better show at the tracks closer to home. All the travelers are just as familiar at those same places, we just want to figure in the Top-5 a little more often,” smiled O’Brien.

O’Brien adds his name to Hagerstown’s all-star roster of Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series standouts, already spotlighting defending Mr. DIRTcar Champ Decker, Jimmy Phelps, Dale Planck, Gary Tomkins and all-time Advance Series winner Brett Hearn. The list of top tour challengers in 2009 also includes Matt Sheppard, Frankie Capara, Steve Paine, Ryan Phelps, Justin Haers, Billy Dunn, Larry Wight, Jeff Brownell Jr. and the Johnson brothers, Alan and Danny.

For additional information, contact DIRTcar Racing Northeast Director of Competition & Track Sanctioning Cory Reed via cell (315/224-9009) or in the DIRTcar Northeast Office (315/834-6606). Also log into www.superdirtcarseries.com, phone the speedway office at 301/582-0640 or visit the track website at www.hagerstownspeedway.com. Race teams planning to attend the ‘North-South Shootout’ at Hagerstown Speedway are encouraged to call Advance Series PR Director Tom Skibinski at DIRTcar NE headquarters (x28) or e-mail tskibinski@dirtcar.com to register.

Deep South Speedway's Biggest Weekend Ever: World of Outlaws Late Model Series Invades March 13-14 For Two-Day Shootout

Deep South Speedway’s Biggest Weekend Ever: World of Outlaws Late Model Series Invades March 13-14 For Two-Day Shootout

LOXLEY, AL – March 4, 2009 – Deep South Speedway has never hosted an event quite like this.

The World of Outlaws Late Model Series is set to invade the burgeoning four-tenths-mile oval for a two-day shootout on March 13-14 – by far the biggest show that has ever been scheduled at the Gulf Coast facility.

With a 40-lap A-Main paying $7,000 to win topping the Friday-night program and a $12,000 first-place prize on the line in Saturday night’s 60-lap headliner, over $100,000 in purses will be paid out during the blockbuster weekend.

And with the entry list expected to boast drivers from nearly two dozen different states, an unprecedented field of dirt Late Model talent will perform on the Deep South Speedway high banks.

“It’s going to be explosive,” promised Ozzie Altman, a veteran short-track racing announcer and publicist who oversees the operation of Deep South Speedway. “This has to be one of the biggest weekends of racing ever around this part of the Gulf Coast – and not just for dirt Late Models. The Snowball Derby (a well-known asphalt Late Model event at Five Flags Speedway in nearby Pensacola, Fla.) doesn’t even pay this much money.”

Located midway between Pensacola and Mobile, Ala., and just 25 miles north of the Alabama resort towns of Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, Deep South Speedway is a newcomer to the national dirt Late Model scene. The track was built five years ago, but it wasn’t until the husband-and-wife team of Bill and Karen Webb bought the facility prior to the 2008 season that it began to gain widespread recognition.

The Webbs, whose Pensacola-based business, BKW, Inc., is one of the first called by the federal government to assist with the critical recovery needs of areas hit by severe storms, are longtime racing enthusiasts with an especially deep background in the dirt Late Model ranks. A decade ago they spent time as the owners of Tazewell (Tenn.) Speedway and, more recently, they fielded the dirt Late Model that Rick Rogers of Knoxville, Tenn., drove to the 2008 Advance Auto Parts Thunder Series championship, so they couldn’t resist purchasing Deep South when they stumbled upon the track on a Sunday afternoon in 2007 and discovered it was for sale.

After green-lighting the most ambitious schedule in Deep South Speedway last season, Bill and Karen Webb gave the directive to make the 2009 campaign even more spectacular. A visit by the WoO LMS on March 13-14 was arranged to serve as the season’s marquee event.

“We were all very pleased with how the 2008 season went, so the decision was made to really put the place on the map this year,” said Altman. “We are just so excited to kick off the new season with a World of Outlaws Late Model Series event of this magnitude.

“Deep South Speedway is an ultra-competitive place, and with the quality of the drivers that will be on hand there’s no doubt fans are going to see a thrilling show.”

According to Altman, around 50 drivers from across the country have indicated their plans to enter the WoO LMS doubleheader at the red-clay oval, which boasts such amenities as grass-terraced grandstand seating (lawnchairs and blankets allowed), air-conditioned restrooms and spacious camping areas.

Leading the talent-laden charge to Deep South will be the roster of WoO LMS stars, including defending tour champion Darrell Lanigan of Union, Ky.; young sensation Josh Richards of Shinnston, W.Va; ’07 champ Steve Francis of Ashland, Ky.; Peach State standouts Shane Clanton of Locust Grove, Ga., and Clint Smith of Senoia, Ga.; Chub Frank of Bear Lake, Pa.; Rick Eckert of York, Pa.; and former Rookies of the Year Tim Fuller of Watertown, N.Y. (2007) and Vic Coffey of Caledonia, N.Y. (2008).

The WoO LMS banner will also be waved by Brady Smith of Solon Springs, Wis., who has announced plans to chase the series for the first time in 2009; sophomore traveler Joe Isabell of Pennellville, N.Y.; and ’09 Rookie of the Year candidates Dustin Hapka of Grand Forks, N.D.; Chuck Hummer of Ottawa Lake, Mich.; Jeff Isabell Sr. and Jr., both of Pennellville, N.Y.; Russ King of Bristolville, Ohio; 14-year-old Tyler Reddick of Corning, Calif.; Brent Robinson of Smithfield, Va.; and Chas Shellenberger of Winfield, Pa.

Former WoO LMS champions Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, Tenn., and Billy Moyer of Batesville, Ark., are among the nationally-known names expected to invade Deep South Speedway for the first time, heading a list that also includes Shannon Babb of Moweaqua, Ill., Brian Birkhofer of Muscatine, Iowa, Kelly Boen of Henderson, Colo., Jimmy Mars of Menomonie, Wis., and Dan Schlieper of Sullivan, Wis.

Others on Deep South’s list of expected entries include Terry Casey of New London, Wis., Randle Chupp of Troutman, N.C., Tyler Ivey of Tallahassee, Fla., Shep Lucas of McKenzie, Ala., Travis Pennington of Winston, Ga., Rick Rogers of Knoxville, Tenn., William Thomas of Phenix City, Ala., and James Ward of Lettsworth, La.

The weekend will actually begin on Thurs., March 12, with a special WoO LMS Welcome Party and Media Night at the track. Local print and electronic media members have been invited to the speedway to interview the drivers, who will enjoy an extended practice session from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. as well as complimentary Gulf Coast cuisine and refreshments.

Complete WoO LMS programs will be presented on both Fri., March 13, and Sat., March 14, including time trials, heats, B-Mains and an A-Main. Local divisions will also be in action each evening.

Grandstand gates will open at 4 p.m. on Friday and 3 p.m. on Saturday, and the pit area will be unlocked at 12 noon each day.

General Admission adult tickets are priced at $20 on Friday and $25 on Saturday, with kids 6-12 charged $5 for entrance each night. Children five years of age and under will be admitted free into the grandstand area each day when accompanied by an adult, and pit passes will cost $30 each day.

Deep South Speedway is located on Alabama Hwy 59, four miles north of Exit 44 off Interstate 10 or 16 miles south of I-65 Exit 37.

Hagerstown Leads Off 2009 Advance Series Big-Block Traveling Show March 28!

Advance Auto Parts Series Points Chase Starts March 28 At Hagerstown

Weedsport, NY – March 3, 2009 – By Tom Skibinski, Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series PR Director

The tradition continues across the Mason-Dixon Line as for the 10th consecutive year Hagerstown Speedway is scheduled to kick off the Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series in Maryland.

Launching the 11th straight season of active involvement by Roanoke, Virginia-based Advance Auto Parts, the 2009 edition begins on Saturday, March 28 with the 'North-South Shootout' highlighted by a 100-lap feature rewarding $6,000 to the winner.

“The Big-Blocks only come to town a couple times all year and the Advance Series show is always a top draw in this area,” remarked legendary promoter Frank Plessinger, who is still anticipating Hagerstown’s 62nd season-opener after cold and wet conditions forced early cancellation the past two weekends. Dating back to 2000, last March marked the third time in nine years that the ‘North-South Shootout’ fell victim to inclement weather. "We always anticipate one of the best Big-Block fields of the year for the Series opener and the fans are in for a real treat with the biggest stars in the business running here under the lights.”

Reigning overall Hoosier Tire-VP Racing Fuels Mr. DIRTcar points king Billy Decker will lead the mighty Big-Block Modifieds in their march south, with the likes of all-time Advance Series winner Brett Hearn, DIRTcar Big-Block career win leader Alan Johnson and top-five tour challengers from a year ago Jimmy Phelps, Dale Planck and Gary Tomkins all looking to wear the crown in 2009.

“Night racing is very enjoyable at Hagerstown and a great place to start off the Advance Series,” said Decker, coming off a career year highlighted by a record-tying 10 tour wins and a series-best 24 Top-10 finishes, 18 among the front-five. The ‘Franklin Flyer’ would like nothing better than to register his first-ever Big-Block victory at Hagerstown, where he has tallied four Top-Five finishes and set the Integra Shocks Fast Time on four occasions. “I’ve always really liked the track, just struggled to make the right adjustment come feature time. It’s similar to Rolling Wheels where we’ve done well there over the years, so we’ll certainly give it our best shot again in a few more weeks.”

The last time the Advance Series stormed into Hagerstown was 2007. Decker was clocked quickest in qualifying and led seven laps before Tim Fuller took over for good on the 33rd circuit. With a late race caution extending the distance to 105 laps, runner-up Hearn slipped past Tomkins with one to go while Decker held off hard charger Rick Laubach to salvage fourth under the checkers.

The 2009 Advance Auto Parts Series points race opener is expected to attract all the top teams in Modified racing today as they contend for the prestigious Mr. DIRTcar Championship and the biggest share of the season-ending point fund in excess of $200,000. Hagerstown's century grind leads off the 22-race Advance Series with the Northeast's premier Big-Block tour running from March through October and featuring extra-distance races at 19 dirt tracks in three states and two Canadian Provinces.

Decker will have his hands full in defense as the Top-16 in 2008 Advance Series points have all indicated they’ll be back in ’09 in quest of the coveted Big-Block title. On that all-star list are past Hagerstown tour winners Hearn (2006), Alan Johnson (2005), Tomkins (2002, '04) and inaugural victor Steve Paine (2001). Joining in on the trail activity are Empire State wheelmen Matt Sheppard and teammate Jeff Brownell Jr., Frankie Caprara, Steve Paine, Ryan Phelps, Justin Haers, Billy Dunn, Danny Johnson and ’08 Rookie of the Year Larry Wight, along with Canadian veteran Pat O’Brien.

The competition has been fierce in the initial six events staged at Hagerstown as 19 drivers have finished among the front-five with only five ---Decker, Tomkins, Alan Johnson, Hearn and Fuller--- able to repeat. Decker set the one-lap tour speed record (19.016 sec./94.657 mph) around the ultra-smooth Hagerstown half-miler in 2005, the same season the race was won by Alan Johnson when the event was rain-delayed until June. Advance Series events in 2000 and ’03 were lost altogether due to early spring precipitation.

Joining the mighty Advance Auto Parts Modifieds in the doubleheader program will be the Late Models. Pits gates are scheduled to unlock at 3:00 p.m., grandstands open at 4:00 p.m. with warm-ups starting at 5:30 p.m. followed by Integra Shocks Big-Block Time Trials. Hagerstown Speedway is located on U.S. Route 40, four miles west of I-81.

World of Outlaws Late Model Series Adds Summer Dates At New York's Can-Am Motorsports Park & South Dakota's Dakota State Fair Speedway

World of Outlaws Late Model Series Adds Summer Dates At New York’s Can-Am Motorsports Park & South Dakota’s Dakota State Fair Speedway

Wild West Tour Visit To Wyoming’s Gillette Thunder Speedway Changed To Tues., July 14

CONCORD, NC – March 2, 2009 – The 2009 World of Outlaws Late Model Series schedule continues to expand.

Series officials announced Monday that summer dates have been added at Caprara’s Can-Am Motorsports Park in LaFargeville, N.Y., and Dakota State Fair Speedway in Huron, S.D., pushing the ’09 WoO LMS slate to a record 48 events at 39 tracks in 21 states and three Canadian provinces.

The DIRTcar Racing-sanctioned Can-Am Motorsports Park will join the WoO LMS ‘Great Northern Tour,’ hosting the ‘North Country 40’ presented by FX Caprara Car Companies on Mon., June 22. A first-place prize of $7,000 has been posted for the half-mile oval’s inaugural dirt Late Model event.

Dakota State Fair Speedway returns to the WoO LMS for the first time since 2005 as part of the second annual ‘Wild West Tour,’ presenting the $10,000-to-win ‘Great Plains 50’ on Thurs., July 16.

In a related schedule change, the previously announced Wild West Tour event at Gillette (Wyo.) Thunder Speedway has been moved up one day to Tues., July 14. The date change will provide race teams a travel day on Wednesday to make the 450-mile haul to Dakota State Fair Speedway.

Can-Am’s mid-week show will serve as a blockbuster dirt Late Model homecoming for two well-known WoO LMS names with deep roots at the track: 2006 tour champion Tim McCreadie and 2007 Rookie of the Year Tim Fuller. Both DIRTcar big-block Modified-turned-dirt Late Model drivers live in Watertown, N.Y., which sits mere minutes south of Can-Am, and have won Modified features at the track.

McCreadie, 34, is currently sidelined by a back injury suffered in a crash during January’s Chili Bowl Midget Nationals in Tulsa, Okla., but he is expected to be back behind the wheel in time to enter the first-ever full-fender special at the track located in his backyard. Fuller, 41, is a WoO LMS regular for the third consecutive year driving for upstate New York trucking company magnate John Wight, who owned and promoted Can-Am from 2001-2003.

In addition, 2008 WoO LMS Rookie of the Year Vic Coffey of Caledonia, N.Y., who is chasing the tour again this season, has tasted success at Can-Am. He won the track’s 2007 DIRTcar big-block Modified points title.

“I’ve been working at Can-Am for 25 years, and this is going to be the biggest thing to ever hit the place,” said Chip Burdick, who manages Can-Am Motorsports Park for co-owners Billy and Charlie Caprara. “It’s a dream come true – for me and all of Can-Am’s longtime employees and fans – to finally have a World of Outlaws event here.

“With Tim McCreadie and Tim Fuller having a chance to run their Late Models in front of their local fans and other big-block Modified stars like Vic Coffey and Billy Decker (the defending Mr. DIRTcar Modified champ) now driving Late Models as well, the interest in a World of Outlaws Late Model Series event at Can-Am is just off the charts.”

Burdick said ticket information will be forthcoming on Can-Am’s North Country 40, which is slotted into the WoO LMS Great Northern Tour between a Sunday-night (June 21) event at Cornwall (Ont.) Motor Speedway and a Tuesday-night (June 23) stop at Canandaigua (N.Y.) Speedway. Information will be available at www.canammotorsports.com or by calling the track office at 315-778-3407.

The Great Plains 50, meanwhile, will bring the nation’s premier dirt Late Model tour back to a three-eighths-mile oval that can boast of holding arguably the most thrilling A-Main in WoO LMS history. On June 5, 2005, Dakota State Fair Speedway fans watched in awe as McCreadie authored a stirring charge to become the first – and still only – driver to win a WoO LMS feature from the last starting spot.

McCreadie actually set fast time and won a heat race that memorable evening at DSFS, but a blown engine during the dash relegated him to the 24th starting position in a backup car. He proceeded to blow through the field, finally grabbing the lead from Darrell Lanigan of Union, Ky., as the white flag was waved.

“Everybody still remembers how Tim McCreadie came from the back to win the last time the World of Outlaws Late Model Series was at Dakota State Fair Speedway,” said Orville Chenoweth of Dakota Promotions, who is beginning his 14th season at the track’s helm. “That was an incredible performance and our fans are anxious to see if someone can do it again.”

The lone 2009 appearance in South Dakota for the WoO LMS, the Great Plains 50 will be contested at the tail-end of the region-hopping Wild West Tour that now numbers six events. WISSOTA Super Stocks and Midwest Modifieds will also be part of the mid-week program.

Ticket information for the Great Plains 50 will soon be available at www.dakotapromotions.com or by calling 605-352-4848.
